PG&E EV rate plans: EV2-A, E-ELEC and E-TOU-C

PG&E has one rate plan built for home EV charging, EV2-A, where electricity costs 22.558¢/kWh from midnight to 3 p.m. every day, including weekends and holidays, and the most from 4 to 9 p.m. E-ELEC is the plan for electrified homes (EV, battery or heat pump, and all Net Billing solar customers), and E-TOU-C is the ordinary time-of-use plan with no EV requirement. Rates below are the total bundled rates from PG&E's tariff sheets effective Jun 1, 2026, checked by us on Nov 2, 2026.

What charging costs at the EV2-A off-peak rate

At 22.558¢/kWh, driving 35 miles a day in a car that uses 30 kWh per 100 miles, with 90% of charging at home during the cheapest period, costs about $89.96 a month (8.5¢ per mile). The same miles in a 28 mpg gas car at $4.17/gal cost $158.46. Charging during summer peak at 53.809¢/kWh instead would cost roughly 2.4× as much for the same energy.

This is an estimate from stated assumptions using one period's rate. It does not model the household's other usage, baseline allowances, the Base Services Charge, or which plan is cheapest for you. Pacific Gas and Electric Company's own comparison tool uses your actual usage history: PG&E Rate Plan Comparison (compare rate plans based on your actual usage).

The three plans at a glance

Which one is cheapest for a given household depends on how much of the non-EV load falls in the 4 to 9 p.m. window, the baseline allowance for the territory, and whether the home has solar. This page does not make that call; PG&E's comparison tool does it from twelve months of actual interval data.

Rates verified by us Nov 2, 2026 against the document dated Jun 1, 2026. Default-style TOU plan used as the baseline on the PG&E page. Off-peak preset uses the pre-credit rate; the baseline credit depends on usage and territory and is not applied.

Fixed charge

Base Services Charge per customer per day by income tier; identical across the utility's residential plans, so it does not change which plan is cheaper. Not modelled in the calculator.
